जब तक अपने में बल, तब तक शुद्ध शरणागति नहीं
हम आपको बताएं, हमने अपने जीवन में असफलता को सफलता का योग माना। जहाँ हम असफल हुए, वहीं हमें सफलता का मार्ग प्रकट दिखाई दिया। हे भगवान, मेरी रक्षा कीजिए। जब क्रोध आया, हे भगवान मेरी रक्षा कीजिए, मुझे संभालिए। असफल और असरण हो जाना ही शरणागति की पुष्टता है। जब तक अपने में बल होता है, तब तक शुद्ध शरणागति नहीं होती। जब अपने को निर्बल मान लिया, जब हमें लगता है कि मैं पूर्ण असफल हूँ, मेरे में कोई सामर्थ्य नहीं, तब रोना आता है और रोकर हम भगवान को पुकारते हैं—हे करुणा सिंधु भगवान, मैं तो असफल हूँ, अगर आप कृपा करो तो मैं इन विकारों से मुक्त होकर आपकी शुद्ध भक्ति को प्राप्त कर सकूं। नाथ, मेरे में सामर्थ्य नहीं कि मैं इन विकारों पर विजय प्राप्त करके आपकी तरफ चल सकूं।
यह भावना अंदर से लाये
गोस्वामी तुलसीदास जी कहते हैं—हो हारो कर जतन विविध विधि अतिशय प्रबल अजय, तुलसीदास बस होए तब जब प्रभु प्रेरक बर जाए। हे प्रभु, आप काम-क्रोध को प्रेरणा देते हैं, हमारे मन को प्रेरणा देते हैं, सारी लीला आपकी चल रही है, आप इनको रोक दो और हमें अपने चरणों की तरफ आने दो। असफलता में निराशा नहीं आनी चाहिए, असफलता में आशा जुड़नी चाहिए। भगवान से कहना चाहिए—मैं तो किसी योग्य नहीं, लेकिन आप सर्वसामर्थ्यशाली हैं। आपकी एक कृपा कोर से मेरा सब कुछ बन जाएगा। मेरे बनाए ना बनेगी, कोटि कल्पों में, आपके बनाए बनेगी पल-पाव में। पल के चौथाई हिस्से में आपकी कृपा कोर से बन जाएगा। नाथ, आपने बहुत पतितों को पावन किया है, मुझ जैसे अधम को भी पावन कीजिए। जब यह भावना अंदर से आ जाती है, तो हमारी सफलता का योग बन जाता है।
हम अविनाशी के बच्चे हैं
हमें निराश नहीं होना, उदास नहीं होना, हताश नहीं होना। अपने कर्तव्य पर कदम आगे बढ़ाते रहना है। फिसल जाएं तो फिर खड़े होकर चलें। यह परमार्थ का मार्ग है, इसमें हारना नहीं है, इसमें निराश नहीं होना है। हम अविनाशी के बच्चे हैं, एक न एक दिन परम पद को प्राप्त करके रहेंगे। आज अगर हम परास्त हो रहे हैं, तो हम रुकेंगे नहीं। हम 100 बार गिरेंगे, तो 101 बार खड़े होकर फिर परमार्थ पर चलेंगे, तो कभी न कभी भगवान हमें विजय दिला ही देंगे।
अपनी तरफ नहीं उनकी तरफ दृष्टि रखो
हमारी कमजोरियां हमें गिराती रहती हैं, लेकिन हमारे प्रभु तो बहुत बलशाली हैं। तो उधर दृष्टि रखो, अपनी तरफ दृष्टि क्यों रखूं? जब अपने को पता है कि अपने से नहीं संभलने वाला, तो ऐसे चलो, गिरोगे नहीं। ऐसे चलोगे, कभी नहीं गिरोगे। आज तक जितने भी ऊँचाई पर चढ़े, वो ऐसे चढ़े हैं जो भगवान की शरण में हुए। सनकादि, ब्रह्मज्ञानी, लेकिन हर समय 'हरि शरणम, हरि शरणम' जपते रहते हैं।
जो अपने को योग्य समझते हैं, वो भ्रष्ट हो जाते हैं
जो भगवान का नाम जप करता है, भगवान का स्मरण करता है, अपने को असमर्थ देखता है, वही तो परम पद का अधिकारी होता है, वही तो भगवान का कृपा पात्र बनता है। यही दरबार दीन को आदर रीति सदा चली आई। जो अपने को किसी योग्य नहीं समझते, वही सर्व योग्य हो जाते हैं। जो अपने को कुछ योग्य समझते हैं, वो भ्रष्ट हो जाते हैं, क्योंकि अभिमान नाश का कारण बनता है, पतन का कारण बनता है।
मेरे सारे काम बिल्कुल आखिरी तक पहुंच के रुक जाते हैं।
पूर्व पाप हमें असफलता प्रदान करके दुख का अनुभव कराता है। पूर्व पुण्य सफलता प्रदान करके सुख का अनुभव कराता है। अब उन पूर्व पापों को नष्ट करने के लिए तप करो, भजन करो, व्रत रहो। मान लो महीने में दो व्रत रह जाओ एकादशी के, और खूब नाम जप करो, कुछ स्तोत्र पाठ करो, तीर्थ यात्रा करो, जिससे तुम्हारे पाप नष्ट हो जाएं, तो वह तुम्हें सफलता प्रदान करेंगे। नहीं, पाप ही असफलता प्रदान करते हैं। सब कोई सोचता है, सब कोई कामना करता है, लेकिन सबकी कामनाएं थोड़ी पूर्ण होती हैं।
नाम जप करो, भगवान से चित्त जोड़ो, तो हम आपसे सही कहते हैं, आप सोचोगे कि ऐसा हलवा मिले, तो जैसा सोचा वैसा ही हलवा तुम्हें खाने को मिल जाएगा। जो इच्छा कर हो मन माही, प्रभु प्रसाद कछु दुर्लभ नाही। अब पाप कर्म करो और सोचो कि हमें सुख मिले, तो कैसे मिल सकता है? फिर तो नहीं मिल सकता। जो इच्छा कर हो मन माही, हरि प्रसाद कछु दुर्लभ नाही। अगर खूब भजन कर रहे हो, तो जो इच्छा करोगे, वो प्राप्त हो जाएगा। अब भजन नहीं, तपस्या नहीं, व्रत नहीं, साधना नहीं, तो फिर किसके बल से कामनाओं की पूर्ति चाहते हो? कामनाएं करते रहो, दुखी होते रहो, चिंता, शोक, भय, मृत्यु इन्हीं को प्राप्त होता है जीव। इसीलिए सबसे कहते हैं, अध्यात्म से जुड़ो। अध्यात्म ही तुम्हें सुख प्रदान करेगा। तुम पैसा कमा सकते हो, नाना प्रकार के पद-प्रतिष्ठा प्राप्त कर सकते हो, लेकिन आत्म शांति नहीं। आत्म शांति तो भजन से मिलेगी।
आप गरीब हो, लेकिन धर्म से चलते हो, प्रसन्न हो, इससे बढ़िया जीवन क्या है? आप धनी हो, वासनाओं का भूत चढ़ा हुआ है, भोगों में पागल हो, अशांत हो, चिंतित हो, दुखी हो, इससे बड़ा नर्क क्या है? तो जो सुख है, वो शांति में है। जो शांति है, वो परमात्म स्वरूप है। भगवान का स्वरूप क्या है? शाकाराकारम, भगवान शांत आकार है। तो वो शांति, हम भगवान के अंश हैं, तो हमें शांति चाहिए। भगवान क्या है? आनंद सिंधु, सुखदासी। तो हम आनंद चाहते हैं, तो आनंद भोगों में नहीं, भगवान में है। भगवान का नाम जप करो, भगवान के चरित्र सुनो और बड़े-बूढ़ों की सेवा करो। यह बात सब अपने दिमाग में रख लो। जो अपने बड़े-बूढ़ों का तिरस्कार करते हैं, वो कभी सफल नहीं हो सकते। अगर सफलता प्राप्त करनी है, तो माता-पिता की आराधना करो, वयोवृद्धों की आराधना करो, तप करो, व्रत करो, नाम जप करो, तो अभी उन्नति होने लगेगी।
अब खाते मुर्गा-मुर्गी हैं, करते व्यभिचार हैं, नशा करते हैं, उन्नति चाहते हैं, तो कैसे हो पाएगी? पुण्य है, तब तक आनंद ले लो, जहाँ पुण्य खत्म हुए, तहां नष्ट हो जाओगे। हमारे शास्त्र आज्ञा करते हैं कि अगर हमें अर्थ की प्राप्ति चाहिए, तो केवल भगवान से चाहिए। हम भगवान के ही आश्रित रहें, किसी व्यक्ति के आश्रित न रहें, और प्रयत्न करें, प्रयास करें, खूब नाम जप करें, भगवती स्तोत्रों का गायन करें, भगवत आराधना करें, और भगवान से धन चाहें, तो प्राप्त हो जाएगा। पर ध्यान रहे, जब तक पाप रहेगा, तब तक नहीं प्राप्त होगा। जब आपका पाप क्षय पहले करेगा, नाम जप तब आपको प्राप्ति होगी। केवल कामना करने से धन की प्राप्ति नहीं होगी। देखो, पद की प्राप्ति ध्रुव जी के मन में आई, तो जाकर तपस्या की, मधुबन में, मथुरा में आकर, तब प्राप्त हुआ। ऐसे कुछ नहीं प्राप्त हो जाता। आपके पास तप हो, आपके पास भजन हो, आपके पास साधना हो, तब आपकी कामना पूर्ण होगी। आप व्रत, नियम, संयम, तपस्या, भजन इनको स्वीकार करें, कामना करें या न करें, आपको सुख घेर लेगा। और आप यह सब न करें, तो लाख कामना करते रहो, किसी मंदिर में जाकर ऐसे पूर्ण होने वाली है क्या? कभी तुक्का लग जाए पुण्य का, तो बात अलग की बात है, नहीं तो ऐसे पूर्ण होने वाली नहीं।
बकाया जरूरी है, हमारी आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति के लिए हम अपने भगवान से प्रार्थना करें, और साधन करें, नाम जप करें, व्रत करें, स्तोत्रों का पाठ करें, तो भगवान कृपा करेंगे, हमारी कामना पूर्ण हो जाएगी। जो धनी पुरुष है, महाराज जी, उन्होंने भी तो पाप किए होंगे। महाराज, हाँ, तो इनको पाप का फल मिलेगा, हाँ, पाप का फल मिलेगा, अभी पुण्य का फल चल रहा है, इसलिए विध्वंस हो जाएंगे। जो पाप करेंगे, चाहे जितने बड़े धनी, मिट्टी में मिल जाएंगे। रावण की खोपड़ी को अपनी गोद में रखकर मंदोदरी कहती—राम विमुहाल तुम्हारा रहा नको को कुल रोवन हारा। उससे बड़ा विद्वान, उससे बड़ा धनी, उससे बड़ा बलवान कौन हो सकता है? मिट्टी में मिला दिया भगवान ने। इसीलिए, चाहे जितने बड़े तुम आज धनी हो, पुण्य के प्रताप से हो, और अगर आज मतवालापन करोगे, पाप करोगे, तो कल तुम नष्ट हो जाओगे, न लोक के रहोगे, न परलोक के रहोगे। इसलिए धर्म से चलना चाहिए। वर्तमान के सुख-दुख को देखकर प्रभावित नहीं होना चाहिए। कोई धर्म में चल रहा है, दुखी दिखाई दे रहा है, उसका पूर्व का पाप चल रहा है। वर्तमान में बहुत अच्छा चल रहा है, कोई वर्तमान में बहुत गलत चल रहा है और वो सफलता को प्राप्त हो रहा है, तो उसका पुण्य काम कर रहा है। लेकिन वर्तमान का कर्म जब फल देगा, तो नष्ट हो जाएगा, क्योंकि वर्तमान में गलत कर रहा है, अधर्म कर रहा है।

Let me tell you, in my life, I have considered failure as a step towards success. Wherever I failed, I found the path to success revealed. “O Lord, protect me.” When anger arises, “O Lord, protect me, take care of me.” To become helpless and surrender is the true strength of surrender. As long as one feels powerful within, true surrender does not happen. When you accept yourself as powerless, when you feel completely unsuccessful and without any strength, you cry and call out to God—“O ocean of compassion, Lord, I am a failure. If you show mercy, I can be free from these faults and attain your pure devotion. Lord, I do not have the strength to overcome these faults and walk towards you.”
Goswami Tulsidas Ji says—“Try as you may in many ways, but the impossible becomes possible only when the Lord inspires.” O Lord, you inspire our mind, our desires, all is your play. Please stop these and let us come to your feet. There should be no despair in failure; hope should be connected to failure. Tell God, “I am not worthy, but you are all-powerful. With just a drop of your grace, everything will be accomplished. What I cannot achieve in millions of lifetimes, you can make happen in a fraction of a second.” Lord, you have purified many fallen souls, please purify a wretch like me too. When this feeling arises from within, it becomes the cause of our success.
We should not be disappointed, not be sad, not be hopeless. We must keep moving forward in our duties. If we slip, we must stand up and walk again. This is the path of spirituality; there is no defeat here, no despair. We are children of the immortal; one day, we will surely attain the supreme state. If we are defeated today, we will not stop. If we fall 100 times, we will stand up 101 times and walk again on the spiritual path, and one day, God will surely grant us victory.
Our weaknesses keep making us fall, but our Lord is very powerful. So, keep your focus on Him, not on yourself. When you know you cannot manage on your own, walk in such a way—you will not fall. All those who have reached great heights did so by surrendering to God. Even the most enlightened always chant “Hari Sharanam, Hari Sharanam.” The one who chants God’s name, remembers Him, and sees himself as incapable, is the true candidate for the supreme state and the recipient of God’s grace. This tradition of honoring the humble has always existed. Those who consider themselves unworthy become worthy of everything. Those who think themselves worthy become corrupt, as pride leads to destruction and downfall.
Why do all my efforts stop just before completion? Maharaj Ji, why does this happen? Past sins bring failure and suffering. Past virtues bring success and happiness. To destroy those past sins, do penance, chant God’s name, observe fasts. For example, keep two Ekadashi fasts a month, chant God’s name, recite hymns, go on pilgrimages—these will destroy your sins and bring you success. Only sins bring failure. Everyone thinks, everyone desires, but not all desires are fulfilled. Connect your mind to God by chanting His name, and you will see, whatever you wish for, you will get. “Whatever you desire in your mind, nothing is impossible by God’s grace.” But if you commit sins and expect happiness, how can you get it? If you are devoted, whatever you wish for will be fulfilled. If you do not do devotion, penance, fasting, or spiritual practice, then by what strength do you expect your desires to be fulfilled? Keep desiring, keep suffering—worry, sorrow, fear, and death will be your companions. That is why I say, connect with spirituality. Only spirituality will give you happiness. You can earn money, gain positions and prestige, but not inner peace. Inner peace comes only from devotion.
You may be poor but live righteously and be happy—what better life is there? You may be rich, possessed by desires, mad after pleasures, restless, worried, unhappy—what greater hell is there? True happiness is in peace, and peace is the nature of the soul. What is the form of God? He is the embodiment of peace. We are parts of God, so we need peace. God is the ocean of bliss, so if we want bliss, it is not in pleasures but in God. Chant God’s name, listen to His stories, and serve the elders. Remember this—those who disrespect their elders can never succeed. If you want success, worship your parents, respect the elderly, do penance, fast, chant God’s name, and you will start progressing.
If you eat meat, commit adultery, indulge in intoxication, and still want progress, how is it possible? Enjoy as long as you have virtue; when virtue ends, you will be destroyed. Our scriptures command that if you want wealth, seek it only from God. Depend only on God, not on any person. Make efforts, chant God’s name, sing hymns, worship God, and if you ask God for wealth, you will get it. But remember, as long as sin remains, you will not get it. When your sins are destroyed by chanting God’s name, then you will receive. Merely desiring will not bring wealth. When Dhruv Ji desired a position, he did penance in Mathura’s Madhuban and then received it. Nothing is achieved without effort. If you have penance, devotion, and spiritual practice, your desires will be fulfilled. Accept fasting, discipline, penance, devotion—whether you desire or not, happiness will surround you. If you do not do these, keep desiring, but nothing will be fulfilled just by visiting a temple. Sometimes, by chance, virtue may work, but otherwise, it will not happen.
It is necessary to pray to God for our needs, do spiritual practice, chant His name, fast, recite hymns, and God will show mercy and fulfill your desires. Even the rich have committed sins; they will get the fruits of their sins. Right now, they are enjoying the fruits of their virtues, but they will be destroyed. No matter how rich you are, if you commit sins, you will be destroyed—neither will you remain in this world nor the next. Therefore, follow the path of righteousness. Do not be influenced by present happiness or sorrow. Someone following dharma may appear unhappy; it is due to past sins. Someone doing wrong may appear successful; it is due to past virtues. But when present actions bear fruit, they will be destroyed if they are wrong, if they are unrighteous.
